The Journey of HQ Elite: Building a Legacy for Hamilton’s Youth

In 2022, HQ Elite Basketball was born with a vision to make a lasting impact on the youth of Hamilton and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). What started as a small program has grown into a platform that empowers over 30 boys, giving them access to free training and mentorship. Our mission has always been clear: to open doors for young athletes, inspiring them to dream bigger and equipping them with the tools to achieve success on and off the court.

One of the cornerstones of our program is the mentorship provided by Division 1 and professional basketball players. These role models don’t just teach the game—they share invaluable insights about discipline, work ethic, and how to carry oneself with integrity. For our athletes, the opportunity to train alongside these elite players offers a glimpse of what’s possible with hard work and dedication.

We’re committed to creating pathways for these boys to pursue post-secondary education, whether in Canada or the United States. Through partnerships with top programs like Adidas 3SSB, NY2LA, and our close relationship with UPLAY Canada—the biggest AAU program in the country and an EYBL-sponsored powerhouse—we aim to provide our athletes with exposure to the highest levels of competition.

Remarkably, HQ Elite has operated for three years without sponsorships or external donations. It hasn’t been easy, but our commitment to the youth in Hamilton and surrounding communities has never wavered. Every workout, every mentorship session, and every opportunity we provide is driven by our passion to see these boys succeed.

About Me

My name is Marquell Fraser, and basketball has been my life’s journey. I’ve proudly represented Team Canada and played five years of Division 1 basketball at VCU, Midland College, the University of Idaho, and Detroit Mercy.

After a long college career enduring two brutal hip surgeries and tearing my MCL twice, I was faced with a difficult decision. Instead of pursuing my professional basketball career, I made the choice to move back to Hamilton. My passion for the game, coupled with my desire to give back, inspired me to help guide the youth and provide them with the same opportunities that were given to me.

Today, I’m honored to serve as the head coach and basketball director of HQ Elite. I’m also a professional trainer and coach for UPLAY Canada and Meta Sports Africa, where I continue to mentor and guide young athletes.

At HQ Elite, we’re driven by the belief that with the right guidance, resources, and opportunities, every young athlete can achieve greatness. As we look toward the future, we remain dedicated to building on this foundation, expanding our reach, and continuing to inspire and uplift the youth of Hamilton and beyond.

Thank you for supporting our mission. Together, we’re creating a brighter future—one athlete at a time.
